It is hard to imagine ABE without Maia Binding. As site director for ABE San Francisco Bay since 2012, she has been a tireless leader for both her site and for the growth and development of the ABE program worldwide. Maia has been a pioneer in shaping ABE’s curriculum and professional development offerings, most recently piloting the new Exploring Precision Medicine curriculum and providing her insightful feedback. Under her stewardship, the San Francisco Bay Area has already become the home to four Master Teacher Fellows.

Together with ABE Massachusetts, Maia launched the much-loved ABE Bi-Coastal Book Club, which brought together teachers, program site staff, and even Program Office staff to talk about big ideas—and even share virtual coffee or a cocktail. She has also welcomed visitors from our global program sites, generously sharing her hospitality, advice, and guidance with all who came through her doors.

Maia will be greatly missed. At the same time, we are delighted that she can take some time to be with her family, travel the world, and continue knitting her fantastic creations. Thank you, Maia, for everything you have given to the ABE community—and please keep sharing your stories with us!
